Expressions of the left

A series of ungoverned gestures.

Commissioned initially for a residential interior, Expressions of the Left began as a practical request: abstract black‑on‑white ink shapes, loose enough to breathe, yet deliberate enough to anchor a space.

To bypass overthinking, I abandoned my dominant hand. Working with my left hand (unpracticed, unprecious), I let each brushstroke fall without revision.

No composition. No erasure.

Only the raw record of a hand moving before the mind could intervene.

The resulting works are neither drawings nor calligraphy, but something in between - a visual language of impulse, hesitation, and release. Each piece isolates a single gesture: a sweep, a stutter, a sudden stop. Through the stark economy of black ink on white paper, this series examines the line between control and surrender, intention and accident.

What emerges is not a statement, but a state. A quiet reminder that sometimes the most honest mark is the one you never planned to make.
